LUNCH

Just thought I'd share this with you.

I moved my bird feeders 10-12 feet off the ground and 10 feet away from our deck so as to keep the squirrls from eating the bird food.

My feeders are attached to my kitchen bay window with suction cups.

We have one persistent squirrl.

Awww - he's hungry. I'm sure he's a little miffed at the fact that he has to work harder now just to get to it.

I bet if you look up "persistence" in the dictionary you would find this picture. We are attacked frequently by squirrels on the golf course. They have powerful claws and teeth.

I have now moved all feeders to the side window of the bay window. One side is near the deck the other side facing away from the deck. This squirrl has made numerous attempts to leap across the expanse of the main window to reach the other side. Three attempts with scrambling paws and claws at the main window as he files by, end him up on the ground with a thud. Now I can enjoy the song of the birds and watch the birds eat all the bird food. I can now also enjoy watching the circus act of a squirrl and have a laugh once in a while.

For all those who may think this is cruel, I do have two squirrl feeders.

If they keep to their own food, they would not provide so much entertainment.

I doubt the squirrel gets hurt in the process. He wouldn't make the jump if he thought there would be serious consequences. And it sounds like he's made the attempt more than once, so there must be some thrill seeker in him. He will be so satisfied if and when he is successful.

Where I have the bird feeders now, he will never reach them from the deck. The only way he could get them is if he can jump straight up like a basket ball player. They are about 6' off the ground. It would be quite interesting to see this. I'll have to get a picture of the squirrl feeder when there is a squirrl on it. It also provides entertainment it is sort of like a merry-go-round.
